Hiring a Local vs. Non-Local Graphic Recorder

Tanya Gadsby is Fuselight’s Creative Director and Graphic Facilitator.

Graphic recording is a growing industry. Although it’s been in use since the 1960s, in the last 15 years there has been an explosion of graphic recorders taking up the pen. Our international membership organization, the IFVP, has a global map of graphic recorders that’s growing steadily year-to-year:

Many graphic recorders travel long distances for conferences. Often it’s because we have a specific expertise, way of working, or a long-standing relationship with the client. But since there are more and more graphic recorders around the world, is travel always necessary? Beyond cost savings, what value can a local graphic recorder deliver compared to a non-local graphic recorder?

Patient Journey Mapping: Tips for Creating a Safe Space

Patient journey mapping is the plotting of patient experiences to understand the gaps, successes, and challenges in a health care journey.

Patients are the only people who experience all aspects of care – from hospital, to community, to specialists, to home, and transitions in between. The patient voice should be central when making sustainable and meaningful improvements to the health system, and journey mapping is a tool for facilitating a better understanding of what is working or not working.

There is no “right way” to journey map. However, most journey mapping is done in face-to-face sessions: with an individual patient, in a group setting with patients who have been through similar journeys, or a group of patients and clinicians.

Case Study: Calgary Stampede Graphic Recording

A case study explores the details behind what went into a project, the challenges, approach, results, and what could be improved for next time. The live illustration we created at the Calgary Stampede is a good example of how to use interactive graphic recording at a large scale event. This case study gives a behind-the-scenes look at our planning, design process, and how the graphic recording had a lasting impact at the event.

The Calgary Stampede is one of the world’s largest rodeos and attracts upwards of 1.2 million people during the course of ten days in July. But it’s not only about the rodeo! There are exhibits on all aspects of agriculture – from chickens to growing veggies to sheering sheep. Many of the attendees are tourists from around the world, some of whom have little knowledge about agriculture in Canada.

Digital Graphic Recording: Benefits and Considerations

We’re getting more requests for digital graphic recording, and it’s quickly becoming a preferred format for some of our clients. Digital graphic recording is flexible, offers unique engagement opportunities, and helps inform breakout group discussions. However, it’s important to consider the benefits and considerations of this format to determine what will work best for your conference!

Fuselight Creative Team: Interview with Tanya Gadsby

Tanya Gadsby is founder of Fuselight Creative (previously named “Drawing Out Ideas”), and has been graphic recording and animating since 2010. Born in New Zealand (and part Māori!), Tanya grew up in Canada’s far north in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and Whitehorse, Yukon.  Project manager Leslie Teixeira had a conversation with Tanya to find out more about how she got into graphic recording and why her theatre background is an excellent foundation for this work….
