At an online national gathering hosted by Walls to Bridges, previously and currently criminalized individuals came together to share priorities for decolonizing and having an anti-racist approach to education programs in the criminal justice system. We graphic recorded these insights in real time and used a tree metaphor to represent the roots for change, and growth into the future. This metaphor was validated with the group and they suggested additions and changes to ensure it accurately reflected their goals.
We met with the Walls to Bridges team ahead of the meeting to identify powerful imagery, ask for guidance on how to handle complex and sensitive topics, and what diversity meant to them (in people, and in how we represented intersectionality through multi-coloured figures).
