Journey Mapping

Journey mapping is sometimes done one-on-one with individuals to capture their unique experience. This results in a “deeper dive” into what each person has gone through and their hopes and aspirations. It is an effective approach when stories are very personal or it is not possible / appropriate to have a group of people in one journey mapping session.

Over a series of nine one-on-one sessions, we mapped out individual journeys through pregnancy and parenthood of people living with addiction in the downtown eastside of Vancouver. Each session had a graphic facilitator, a counsellor (who acted as facilitator for prompting questions), the client sharing their story, and the client’s chosen support person (such as a friend or family member, if desired). This helped keep the space intimate and confidential so the client would feel more comfortable sharing openly.
