At a hybrid national conference hosted by the Vancouver Stroke Program, researchers, healthcare providers, and people with lived experience gathered to discuss the evolving needs of those living with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). As medical advances allow the CHD community to live longer, the focus of this two-day event was on bridging the gap between paediatric and adult care, and addressing health concerns—from brain health to family planning—across the entire human lifespan.
Working virtually, Tanya captured these complex medical and social dialogues in real time. The illustrations centered on themes of empowerment and connection, using powerful metaphors like navigating paths with many directions and the “open door” of future possibilities. By moving away from clinical clichés and focusing on a strength-based lens, the graphics provided a patient-centered record of the session. These visuals were used to recap key insights for both in-person and virtual attendees, and will serve as a foundational tool for upcoming guidance papers and research priorities aimed at improving care delivery nationwide.
