FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre: Art in Action Climate Symposium
Digital Graphic Recording

At the Art in Action (AiA) Climate Symposium hosted by the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, a diverse community of artists, scientists, and Indigenous knowledge holders gathered to imagine a resilient future for the Niagara region. Over the course of a full day, graphic recorder Brittany captured a series of dynamic sessions—ranging from Haudenosaunee perspectives on water sovereignty to the intersection of generative AI and climate change.

Working digitally, we developed a visual story that grew in real time, capturing the “feedback” and reactions of the room as participants explored the tension between traditional science and Indigenous wisdom. To support the goals of the symposium, the illustrations avoided clinical clichés, instead focusing on powerful imagery of energy innovations and the unique Niagara landscape. The resulting graphics were displayed throughout the ten-day festival, serving as a shared vision for the community and a vibrant record of their collective commitment to climate action
